A small amount of water in the sump is normal (it keeps seals wet). A full basin that never drains is not — that’s a drain pump, filter or hose problem. It’s one of the most common and most affordable dishwasher repairs, and usually a first-visit fix.
Grit means spray arms or the wash pump aren’t moving water properly, or the filter is clogged. Cloudiness is usually hard-water film — fixable with descaling and rinse-aid settings — unless the glass is etched, which is permanent. We sort out which during the diagnosis.
